Some people grow fruit for pies. Others aim for planetary domination.
These record-breaking fruits are the stuff of legends—and maybe nightmares for your local grocer. Let’s dive into the world of juicy giants, where size and weight matter more than taste.

Watermelon Wonder
Weight: 350.5 lb (159 kg)
Grower: Chris Kent, USA

Back in 2013, Chris Kent grew this watermelon that could feed an entire family reunion—and their neighbors. It’s a green miracle, weighing as much as a baby hippo.
What was his secret? Grafting the watermelon onto a gourd’s root stock for a stronger root system.
Here’s a video of the watermelon wonder being weighed:

Strawberry Supreme
Weight: 11.35 oz (322 g)
Grower: Ariel Chahi, Israel

World
s biggest strawberry being weighed on a scale

In 2021, Chahi’s Ilan strawberry variety mutated into an 11.35 oz (322 g) berry.
This strawberry broke his record from the previous month of 10.19 oz (289 g), which he attributed to a snap of cold weather and time.
Taking over 45 days to ripen from a flower, there was enough time for many berries to grow and merge into one giant strawberry supreme five times the size of a regular one.

Grape Expectations
Weight: 22.31 lb (10.12 kg)
Growers: Sebastián Gómez Falcón and Delegación de Agricultura del Ayuntamiento de Los Palacios y Villafranca, Spain

Meet the world’s largest bunch of grapes, tipping the scales at a jaw-dropping 22.31 lb (10.12 kg).
To put this size in perspective, the average bunch of grapes weighs less than a pound (around 0.3 kilograms).
This impressive cluster of grapes shattered records in 2018, after the title had been held for 34 years at 20.72 lb (9.4 kg).

Lemon Law Breaker
Weight: 11.61 lb (5.27 kg)
Grower: Aharon Shemoel, Israel

Back in 2003, Aharon grew a lemon that could make gallons of lemonade.
In fact, this 35-cm high lemon grew right next to another big lemon!
It’s unclear what this citrus leviathan was fed, but this is “when life gives you lemons” takes on a whole new meaning.

Pumpkinzilla
Weight: 2,749 lb (1,246.9 kilograms)
Grower: Travis Gienger, USA (2023)

Travis’s massive pumpkin, nicknamed “Michael Jordan,” smashed previous records at the 2023 Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay, California.
Weighing a staggering 2,749 pounds (1,246.9 kg), the Atlantic Giant earned its place as the largest pumpkin ever recorded.
And we’re pleased to say that this pumpkin’s journey didn’t end there…
It was taken to New York, where Eric Jones carved it into a patriotic jack-o’-lantern to honor Veterans Day.

From citrus to squash, these record-breaking fruits remind us of one thing: sometimes, bigger really is better. Whether it’s about bragging rights or just impressing the neighbors, these growers take fruit cultivation to the extreme.
